Hi, I’m Trevor, and welcome to my online teaching studio, Bach To Basics Music.

Let’s make sure you’re all set for an amazing online piano lesson experience—it’s simpler than you might think, and I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

Let’s start by talking about your lesson time and space. Try to pick a time when things are quieter around the house. A peaceful spot will help you stay focused and make the most out of our lesson time.

For parents with younger children, it’s helpful to set up somewhere you can still hear or see the lesson, just in case your child needs some help following along. This also gives you a chance to ask me any questions you might have as we go.

Next, let’s talk about your device. A laptop or tablet generally provides the best results for online lessons, allowing for a clear view of both the piano and materials when screen sharing. That said, some students prefer using their smartphones, and that works too! Just be sure to position the device so I can see your hands on the piano, and you can see me and any materials. We can easily adjust the camera angles during our lesson if needed—no problem at all.

A stable setup is key—especially for smartphones. If you’re using one, a phone stand is a great option to keep it steady. However, don’t worry if you don’t have one; we’ll find the best angle together.

Make sure you have your materials close by—music books, lesson notes, a pencil, and an eraser—so we can move smoothly between activities.

If you’re a parent helping out a younger child and want to sit in on the lesson, that’s great! Being nearby to provide a little support can really make a big difference in your child’s progress. Your presence can help reinforce what we cover in lessons, boosting their confidence and helping them stay engaged.

Following these simple steps will help set you up for a great online lesson experience. And if you ever have questions about your setup, just let me know—I’m always here to help.
