Welcome to all the new students starting lessons this first week of April—I’m so glad you’re here! Whether you’re brand new or continuing on your musical journey, I’m excited to be working with you. There’s lots happening this month, so let’s dive into the updates for April.
New Weekly Games – Level Up and Have Fun!
We’ve added something exciting to your lessons: two brand-new games are now developed each week to keep things fresh and fun. These games help students move up the leaderboard and give everyone more options to choose from during lesson time.
The games are pattern-based—just like music! Recognizing patterns is an essential part of becoming a strong musician, and these games are designed to strengthen those skills while keeping things interactive and engaging.
Up-Tempo Publishing – New Books Coming Soon!
My publishing company, Up-Tempo Publishing, is now about 60% complete and officially registered with Libraries and Archives Canada. I’ll be releasing a series of educational books soon, designed to support both the classes I teach on Outschool and the lessons right here at Bach To Basics Music.
These materials will help students learn faster and more affordably—no need to rely entirely on costly books from the local music store. The Up-Tempo website will also include free resources for students and music teachers alike.
Trevor Baron Music – A New Home for Theory & Composition
Another exciting development is the Trevor Baron Music website, which will support students interested in music theory and composition. The site will feature a blog, lesson support materials, and a Patreon page for adult learners who are interested in self-study, including more advanced topics like orchestration techniques.
Though a simpler company in scope to set up than the publishing site, this new platform will serve as a resource for students pursuing music career paths—and this year, quite a few of you have expressed an interest in becoming composers!
Expanding the Studio’s Online Network
The goal behind all of these projects—Up-Tempo Publishing, Trevor Baron Music, and their corresponding YouTube channels—is to build a larger network of specialized websites that reflect the many musical interests my students have: from performance and theory to self-publishing and music production.
While these platforms will offer helpful starting points, they’re not meant to replace in-depth study or other resources. Think of them as your launchpad into new areas of musical exploration.
Looking Ahead
With just three months left in the academic year, now’s a great time to refocus, set some goals, and enjoy the progress you’ve already made. I hope you have a fantastic month ahead—and I look forward to seeing you at your next lesson! Feel free to check out the February and March newsletters.
Until the next newsletter,
Trevor
