RCM-Certified Piano & Theory Teacher | 25+ Years Experience
Hello!
Hi, I’m Trevor—an RCM-certified piano and theory teacher with over 25 years of experience helping students learn, grow, and truly enjoy music.
I’ve worked with children, teens, and adults of all backgrounds, whether they’re preparing for The Royal Conservatory of Music exams or learning to play their favorite songs just for fun.
Every lesson is live and one-on-one, taught through Zoom or Microsoft Teams using a multi-camera setup, screen sharing, and real-time annotations. Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals and interests while still building solid fundamentals.
More About My Background and Approach
Teaching Experience
I’ve taught music full-time for over 25 years, working with students across Canada, the United States, the U.K., and Australia. I currently teach a full roster of more than 50 students weekly. Many of them have studied with me for years, from early childhood through high school and even into university. I specialize in preparing students for RCM exams at all levels, and I’ve worked with students who have ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome, and other learning differences—adapting lessons to fit every student’s needs.
Education and Training
My training includes studies through The Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), Alberta College Conservatory of Music (Edmonton), Grant MacEwan University, and coursework from Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Performance and Teaching Background
I served for over five years as the choir director and organist at King of Kings Lutheran Church in St. Albert, Alberta. I’ve helped students publish their music, record their own albums, and even write instrument parts for school ensembles when sheet music wasn’t available. Teaching is what I love most—and it’s been the focus of my entire professional life.
Memberships and Community Involvement
I’m an active member of several national and international music organizations, including:
- Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS)
- Canadian League of Composers
- SOCAN
- International Society for Music Education (ISME)
- Society for Education and Music Psychology Research
I’ve also had the honour of serving as a JUNO Awards judge in 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2022.
Approach to Teaching
I believe music education should be structured, supportive, and tailored to the student. Whether a student is working toward exams or simply wants to enjoy music, my focus is on helping them grow in skill, confidence, and creativity. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress, joy, and meaningful musical experiences.
A Welcome Message
Thanks for taking the time to learn more about me and my studio. I’m passionate about helping students discover what they’re capable of—whether it’s preparing for RCM exams or just playing for the love of music.
If this feels like the right fit, I’d love to invite you to book a free trial lesson or reach out with any questions. I’m always happy to help.
For my students who like to explore beyond the piano, I’ve created a few extra resources inspired by their interests—covering recording, composing, production, self-publishing, and more.
