May 4, 2024

In this May Newsletter 2024, we will discuss the music exam season, the close of the academic year, summer lessons, and a new course being developed. The beginning of May signifies the commencement of The Royal Conservatory of Music exam months, a crucial period as we approach the end of the academic year. Music theory exams are scheduled for May, and practical piano exams are in June. For those of you who are diligently preparing for your 2024 fall exams, we will intensify our focus on exam materials and conduct mock exams in our lessons. This rigorous preparation ensures you are optimally prepared for your examinations. Regular practice and preparation are key to success in these exams.

In June, registration forms will be emailed out at the start of the month for students returning for lessons in the Fall. The process will involve filling out the form, indicating the preferred lesson time, and returning it to me. Students continuing lessons throughout the summer months can continue lessons as usual without the need for re-registration.

Our game season is nearing its end, and I’m thrilled to witness the remarkable progress of all participating students. Each of you has shown dedication and skill, and we are excited to see the final results. All participating students can track their progress on the leaderboard, which is a testament to your hard work. Some students will play two games for the odd lesson, allowing them to catch up on any missed games due to a lesson absence. This approach ensures everyone has an equal chance to earn points as we enter the last two months of the academic year. The game season is not just about fun but also about enhancing your performance and learning experience.

I am thrilled to announce the launch of a new self-paced summer camp designed specifically for students who are interested in lessons but who have never taken lessons before. This camp offers a unique opportunity to learn at your own pace, empowering you to take control of your learning journey. The course is two months long and has daily lessons in which students will cover basic finger exercises, sight reading, ear training, music theory, and repertoire at a beginner level. All lessons are presented in a video format so the student can rewind, slow down, or speed up the video as they desire to suit their needs best. I aim to have the course ready by the start of next month (June 2024).

I wish you all a happy May, and I look forward to seeing you in lessons for this year’s wind-down of the academic year 2023-2024. It’s been a great year. It was a pleasure teaching you, and I’m excited to see how far you’ve all come in your musical journey.
